Feb. 18 - RiddleFest "Singing the Blues
Free afternoon seminars taught by musician Scott Ainsle and Dr. Kathy Bullock of Berea College on the Piedmont Blues. Dr. Barry O'Connell of Amherst college in Massachusetts will do a seminar on the life of Lesley Riddle. Riddle was a musician from Burnsville who worked closely with the Carter Family of Maces Springs, VA in the development of the early country music. The RiddleFest will be February 18th in the Burnsville Town Center to Honor Lesley's contributions. The RiddleFest is sponsored by the Traditional Voice Group of Yancey and Mitchell counties. The Evening Concert will feature Scott Ainsle, Kathy Bullock and the Griffith Chapel Choir. Admission Will be Charged
Mar. 05 - Penland School O Crafts
Each spring on the Saturday before classes begin, the Penland studios are open to the public for hands-on workshops and demonstrations in clay, glass, iron, metals, textiles,and more. It's an afternoon of experimentation, creativity, and fun. No charges; all ages are welcome.

The Yancey County Farmer's Market will Open for its 20th season on April 21st and will be open each Saturday morning from 8:30am to 12:30pm through October. The Market is located at the Burnsville Town Center.

May 05 - Penland School of Crafts Auction
Scholarship Auctions
Each Penland session ends with an auction of work donated by students, instructors, and friends. These auctions are culminating celebrations of the work done in the classes, and they are an opportunity for neighbors, travelers, and crafts enthusiasts to enjoy the energy of a penland session. All proceeds support the Penland scholoarship program.
Auctions take place at 8:00pm in the Northlight Building.
