52nd
Annual Mt. Mitchell Crafts Fair August 1-2, 2008!

Mt.
Mitchell
Crafts Fair Celebrates its 52nd Year Anniversary! As the saying goes, “We must
be doing something right!” People from all across America know that the place to
be on the first Friday and Saturday in August is the historic, charming Town
Square of Burnsville, NC. Every kind of handmade craft imaginable can be found
here. Whether you're looking for a beautiful handmade quilt, jewelry made from
local gemstones, hand-turned wooden bowls, pottery of every design, traditional
mountain instruments, or stained glass works of art, the Mt. Mitchell Crafts
Fair is the place to find it!
The 52nd Annual Mt. Mitchell Crafts Fair, August 1-2, is the oldest and
largest crafts fair in the Blue Ridge Mountains. For the past several years, the
Southern Tourism Society has selected this event as one of the top twenty to
attend in the Southeast. The town of Burnsville is located in Yancey County, North Carolina, in the heart of the Blue Ridge Mountains and is
the home of Mt. Mitchell, which is the highest peak east of the Mississippi,
rising to an elevation of 6,684 ft. Burnsville is about 20 miles from the Blue
Ridge Parkway and
35
miles northeast of Asheville. We are proud to boast that Yancey County is known
for more artisans per capita than anywhere else in the country!
In addition to the
52nd
Annual Crafts Fair, Yancey County offers two beautiful golf courses, the
award-winning Mountain Air Country Club's private course known as the "mile-high
sanctuary" with its own private airstrip, and the Mt. Mitchell Golf Club's
"Mighty 90," 5-star public course located just off the Blue Ridge Parkway at the
foot of Mt. Mitchell. We have many interesting shops, a dude ranch, bed and
breakfasts, an historical inn and other accommodations, camping, hiking, and fly
fishing, as well as great cultural opportunities and one of the state's oldest
performance theatres, the Parkway Playhouse.
The fair hosts well over 250 juried crafters, both local and from many states
across the country that show and sell their own beautifully handcrafted work.
On-going bandstand entertainment is free, featuring an array of traditional
mountain music and dance groups, including bluegrass, folk, gospel, golden
oldies, and traditional clogging groups. The food court features a wide variety
of delicious food and a special "Kid Zone" will offer lots of fun things for the
kids to do.
Admission to the fair is free. Park-and-ride shuttle service is provided. Mt.
Mitchell Crafts Fair means quality, originality, and variety in a delightful
small town atmosphere deep in the heart of the Blue Ridge. Burnsville's a great
place to live, work and play. Come join us for the big 52nd Year Celebration! We
look forward to seeing you there. For more information, please call the Yancey
