Burnsville Metric Information
The Burnsville Metric is a great way to kickoff cycling season! Held annually on the last Saturday in April, it’s casual but well-supported, and follows some of the flattest, most scenic roads in WNC. Throughout the course there are 3 rest stops with bathroom facilities, and roving SAG support.

The Burnsville Metric course is a 60.7 mile loop that begins & ends at Burnsville Town Square, a small mountain town about 40 minutes northeast of Asheville. There’s also a 43 mile loop option. There are 3 rest stops with bathroom facilities. Helmets are required. All riders must sign the waiver. Riders under 18 must have a parent co-sign the waiver. All riders must obey rules of the road – we are sharing these roads with motorists. Traffic Note: There is still a small portion of road construction after the third rest stop. This section of Hwy 19E is between NC 80 North & NC 80 South just east of Micaville, and impacts less than 2 miles of the Metric route. Please be super cautious in that area. We will have extra signage there to increase driver awareness.
Burnsville Metric Fees
• $45 if paid by April 15.
• $35 for full-time students age 22 and younger. Riders under 18 must have a parent co-sign the waiver.
• $55 for all registrations after April 15.
Many cyclists come back year after year to ride in the Burnsville Metric. For most, the event is a chance to spend time with friends, make new acquaintances, and enjoy a spring weekend in the mountains. It’s a great way to start riding season.
The course follows backroads in Yancey and Mitchell Counties and takes riders through several small communities including Kona (left), with its historic church and cemetery. It is an amazing scenic route.
