The Celo Health Center is an independent, non-profit, community owned family practice that has provided quality primary care to people of all ages in the South Toe Valley since 1947, with Dr. Elpenor Ohle as it’s first physician.
We strive to promote and enhance the health of the people of Yancey County and surrounding area by emphasizing wellness and prevention and managing illness by forming trusting, cooperative relationships in order to treat the whole person in the context of their family and community.
A Family Practice Physician is a medical doctor who specializes in primary care for the whole family. To be board certified, a family physician has gone to 4 years of medical school, and then 3 years of residency training in adult medicine, pediatrics, obstetrics, gynecology, and has done rotations in many specialties, in order to provide primary care to all ages.
To maintain certification, we take an exam every 6-7 years, and do at least 50 hours of continuing medical education each year. This keeps us current with the latest medical recommendations for our patients.
The Center features exam rooms, a trama/procedure room, new xray and lab facilities, a patient education classroom, a comfortable waiting room. Services include pediatric primary care, adult medicine, obstetrics with a family centered approach. womens health care. exercise stress training. and more. Admission and inpatient care is provided at Blue Ridge Regional Hospital in Spruce Pine.
