Yancey County Campgrounds
Toe River Campground at Patience Park is a family-oriented, alcohol free, county-owned and operated campground located off Highway 80 South in Yancey County. The address is 225 Patience Park Road. Call (828) 675-5104.
Toe River Campground offers water & electricity hookups for RVs, tent sites along the South Toe River, tubing and fishing, a swimming pool, gameroom, playground, and a rustic venue for weddings, parties and reunions. Great fishing on the South Toe. Kayaks available.
Carolina Hemlocks Campground
Carolina Hemlocks Campground is located at 8512 Hwy 80 South in southern Yancey County at an elevation of 2,900 feet. There’s a small camp store onsite that rents tubes, and two other community stores nearby. Coin-operated showers. Open April thru October. Call (828) 675-5509.
Carolina Hemlocks Campground has two different loops with a total of 36 sites for tents and RVs (no hookups available for RVs). Each site includes a table, fire ring with cooking grill, and lantern post. There’s also a picnic area with a group pavilion that holds up to 30 people.
Black Mountain Campground
Black Mountain Campground has more than 40 primitive campsites, each with tent pad, lantern hook, picnic table and fire ring. There are no water or electrical hookups available, but the campground does have bathroom facilities and hot showers.
Black Mountain Campground is located at the base of Mount Mitchell on the South Toe River (U.S. Forest Service Rd. 472), In addition to the tent and RV sites, there’s also the Briar Bottom group camping area. The address is 50 Black Mountain Campground Road. Call (828) 675-5616.
Mount Mitchell State Park Campground
The campground at Mount Mitchell State Park has nine tent sites. Reservations are encouraged, especially during the summer. Campers park in a central parking area then walk up the hill to the campsites. There are bathroom facilities in the campground with toilets and sinks, but no showers.
