Burnsville Metric @ Burnsville Town Center
Apr 27 all-day
Burnsville Metric @ Burnsville Town Center

The Burnsville Metric is a fully-supported metric century bike ride open to riders of all ages. This ride is not a race but a beautiful spring ride, suitable for riders of all levels above beginner. A timer will be running for the curious.

The ride is organized by The Yancey County Chamber of Commerce along with a small group of volunteers to promote bicycling and our beautiful mountain countryside, as well as support a long list of nonprofits that also volunteer during the ride.

Annually held on the last Saturday of April, the Burnsville Metric is a great way to start off your cycling season. It is casual but well-supported and comprises some of the most scenic roads in Yancey and Mitchell counties. Burnsville’s Town Square makes a dramatic location for the registration/start/finish/meal proceedings and is also the highest elevation of the ride, a modest 2,821 feet.

Burnsville Fit Families 5K @ Burnsville Town Square
May 11 all-day
Burnsville Fit Families 5K @ Burnsville Town Square

Every spring we host a community race through downtown Burnsville that’s family-friendly, fun, and fitness-oriented. At PATH, we know developing healthy habits at a young age is a great way to make them stick. That’s why youth under the age of 18 run the Fit Families 5K for free! We want kids to learn sooner rather than later that exercise isn’t just good for you, it’s a lot of fun, too!

Businesses, civic and church groups, and policymakers are invited to cheer on our runners as they make their way through the town. People often dress in costumes, ring bells, blow bubbles, and give high fives to support the racers along our USATF certified 5K course. Together, we all make sure the event has equal amounts of healthy competition, athletic camaraderie, and FUN.
