Mt. Mitchell Crafts Fair
Over 200 Vendors, Live Music & Food
In August 1956, Burnsville Town Square hosted the first Mt. Mitchell Crafts Fair to celebrate the talent and dedicated work of the people in Yancey County, North Carolina. Today the tradition continues each year on the first Friday and Saturday in August. The two-day event draws artists, craftspeople, musicians and food vendors from North Carolina, Virginia, Tennessee and across the Southeast, and attracts thousands of people to Burnsville. The next event will be held August 7-8, 2020, Friday & Saturday, 9am to 5pm.

Friday & Saturday
With traffic blocked off for the weekend, vendors set up booths around Burnsville Town Square and along Main Street, allowing people to take their time and stroll through the Crafts Fair.
The Mt. Mitchell Crafts Fair gives people a chance to slow down and enjoy the day. Craft demonstrations, singing & dancing on the stage, and many other events are scheduled throughout both days.
Music fills the air throughout both days of the Mt. Mitchell Crafts Fair. After walking around and checking out the vendors’ booths and getting something to eat & drink in the food court, most people settle under the shade trees to enjoy the music and dancing on stage.
There’s plenty of bluegrass music and great singing & dancing throughout both days of the Crafts Fair.
Painters, sculptors & other artists from Burnsville, Yancey County and beyond sell their best new work at the Crafts Fair. Many of the same vendors and fairgoers come back year after year.
Every year more than 200 artists, crafters and musicians bring their talents to the Mt. Mitchell Crafts Fair, which is ranked annually as a top summer event in the NC mountains.
One favorite part of the Crafts Fair is the tasty variety of food & beverages available. Gyros, Italian sausage, funnel cakes, hotdogs, kettle corn, BBQ and Philly steak sandwiches, souvenir mugs of soda, lemonade, root beer and all kinds of treats that make outdoor festivals so much fun.
