Things to Do in Burnsville & Yancey County - March 2026


As winter begins to loosen its grip on the mountains, things are starting to come alive again around Burnsville and Yancey County. March brings a full calendar of opportunities to get out, connect with neighbors, and enjoy everything our community has to offer. From local markets and live music to family events, workshops, and ways to support great causes, there’s something happening nearly every week. Here’s a look at what’s happening across Yancey County this March:


  • Friday, March 6th:

    • Ribbon Cutting for Sassy Gal (11 W. Main St.) | 10 AM - Join the Chamber as we celebrate Sassy Gal with an official ribbon cutting. We’re excited to welcome this fun and stylish shop to the Burnsville business community. Come out to meet the team, check out the boutique, and help us give Sassy Gal a warm Yancey County welcome. Supporting local businesses is what keeps our downtown vibrant, and we hope to see you there!

  • Saturday, March 7th:

    • Burnsville Spring Fest Show at Burnsville Town Center | 9 AM-3 PM - Featuring one-of-a-kind gift items handmade by local crafters and artisans. Celebrate the arrival of Spring by shopping a wide variety of unique items such as paintings, quilted sheep, teddy bears, wooden bowls, stained glass, painted signs, glass ornaments, beeswax candles, baked goods and much more!   • Sunday, March 8th:

    • Pink Floyd, Darkside of the Moon visualization show at Mayland Earth to Sky Park and Bare Dark Sky Observatory | 2-3 PM - Come Celebrate the majesty of Pink Floyd's Dark Side of the Moon to beautiful visuals! Enjoy the music of Pink Floyd and the world-renowned album, The Dark Side of the Moon like you never have before in our 360 ° digital planetarium theatre. Listen to the music of your favorite classic rock band set to stunning digital visualizations. With themes that are out of this world, you have a chance to zoom through space and time! 

  • Wednesday, March 11th:

    • Non-Profit Night at Homeplace | 5-9 PM - One Wednesday every month, Homeplace and Hog Hollow feature a nonprofit and donate 10% of all food and beverage sales between 5-9 pm to the organization. Enjoy a pie and a pint while contributing to a good cause! March's featured nonprofit is Mitchell-Yancey Habitat for Humanity.

    • Spring Workday at Parkway Playhouse | 12-4 PM - Join the Parkway Playhouse on March 14, 2026, from 12 pm-4 pm for our Spring Workday, where we’ll be getting the theatre ready for another exciting season! We'll need help with everything from gardening to painting to cleaning. Some tools will be provided, but please bring your own with you!     • RuthFest 2026 at the Burnsville Town Center | 3-6 PM - Celebrate community, music, and mountain tradition at RuthFest in Burnsville. Join us Saturday, March 14 at the Burnsville Town Center for an afternoon Chili and Cornbread Cookoff from 3 PM–6 PM honoring the late Ruth Banks, whose legendary cornbread inspired this beloved gathering. Then stick around as Red Clay Revival takes the stage at 6 PM for a night of live music and celebration. With delicious home-cooked flavors, friendly competition, and neighbors coming together for a great cause, RuthFest is a true hometown experience. Proceeds benefit Southern Waters and Mountain Strong as they continue helping the community rebuild, so come hungry, stay for the music, and be part of something meaningful.

    • Shamrock & Roll Skate Night at Heritage Roller Rink | 6-9 PM - Get ready to roll into the luckiest night of the year at Heritage Roller Rink! Wear your GREEN, grab your friends, and enjoy a fun-filled night of skating, music, and glowing rink lights. It’s the perfect family night out and a great way to kick off St. Patrick’s celebrations! Wear Green. Irish hits + retro skate favorites. Fun for all ages.

  • Wednesday, March 18th:

    • Paint & Sip at Homeplace | 6 PM - Unleash your creativity with us at Homeplace Beer Company on Wednesday, March 18th, at 6:00 pm! No experience is needed. Our skilled instructors will guide you through each step, helping you recreate this fun landscape with dandelions! PLEASE NOTE THAT THE EVENT SPACE IS ACCESSIBLE ONLY BY STAIRS. Everyone will receive a 16x20" canvas with a pre-sketched drawing and all necessary painting supplies. We kindly ask that each guest buy at least one drink or menu item to support this awesome venue. For the best experience, we recommend arriving early to settle in and order some tasty bites and beverages before we begin. Tickets $38.

  • Friday, March 20th - Saturday, March 21st

    • The Burnsville Rummage Sale | 8 AM-5 PM on 3/20, 8 AM-4 PM on 3/21 - This rummage sale will be featuring items such as: Kids' clothes, Car seats, Strollers, Toys, men's clothes, women's clothes, brand-name items, shoes, jewelry, home decor, 100-year-old antiques, and more! Items new and old, this is a sale you don't want to miss! For more information, please call 828-678-9221.

  • Thursday, March 26th:

    • Business After Hours with Wandering Brushes Chimney Sweeps | 5:30-7 PM - More details to come!

  • Saturday, March 28th:

    • Annual Burnsville Easter Egg Hunt on The Square | 1 PM - Bring the whole family and get ready to hunt for thousands of eggs hidden throughout the square - some filled with candy and others with fun toys. To make sure everyone has a great time, we’ll have a special section just for younger children, filled with candy-only eggs so they can hunt safely and at their own pace. And of course, the Easter Bunny will be hopping by for photos and hello’s!
